Kano takes anti-corruption fight to LGs
In its bid to take its fight against corruption to local government, Kano state government has cimmissioned the first local government anti-corruption office in the state.
It would be recalled that few months ago, the state has awarded contract for the construction of anti-corruotion offices in all the 44 local government areas of the state.
The state commissioned local government anti-corruption office and launched anti-corruotion clubs in all secondary schools in the state as part of this year's International Anti-Coruption Day.
Speaking shortly before he commissioned the anti-corruption edifice in Gandun- Albasa, Municipal local government, governor Ganduje said his administration was determined to fight corruption from top to bottom.
Ganduje said it was out of its compasion to the crusade that governnent strengthened the commission and gave it free hand to carry out its statutory functions for the benefinefits of the common man.
He said, "Kano anti-corruption commission was established to fight for the rights of the common man and I am sure the commission is so far on the right track. It is on records that this commussion had few months ago, arraigned one of my commissioners before a court over alleged corrupt practices and nobody including me interfere in its activities.
"President Muhammadu Buhari directed me to personally commission the project on his behalf because the structure was part of the projects he was expected to commission during his 2-day working visit to the state but because of some reasons he could not commission it."
Earlier at the launching of secondary schools' clubs, Chairman of the Commission, Muhayi Magaji Rimingado asssured that the commission would soon establish units in all ministries, parastatals and agencies in the state.
He said, "Nigerians need to be patriotic to fight the menace at all levels. It is regrettable that most state governments in the country have failed to join the federal government in the fight against coruption. Unless we adopt a holistic approach to the menace, we will not succeed in achieve much in fighting corruption.
Muhuyi said the commission took anti-corruption campaign to schools in order to catch the students at their younger age, saying that the commission was determined to fight corruption in different ways.
"To achieve that we must involved everybody including students and that is why we took the camapign to our schools. From now on, members of anti-corruption clubs are our agents in their respective schools," he concluded.
