Dickson appoints new SSG

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, has appointed the Commissioner for Trade, Industry and Investment, Mr. Kemela Okara, as the new Secretary to the State Government.
Okara filled the void created by former SSG, Chief Serena Dokubo-Spiff, who threw in the towel about two months ago.
The new SSG, who was appointed on Thursday, hails from Bumoundi in Ekpetiama Clan of Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state.
He holds an LLB degree with Honours from the University of Middlesex, London, and he is a member of the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn, London, England, having been called to the English Bar in 1989.
Okara was also called to the Nigerian Bar in December 1989 and was one of the founding partners of Streamsowers & Köhn, a major commercial law firm located in the heart of Victoria Island, Lagos, with branch offices in Abuja and Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Okara served as Commissioner for Trade, Industry and Investment from from April 2014 to February 2016 and was re-appointed to the same portfolio on April 13,  2016 after the re-election of Dickson for a second term.
He was responsible for developing the Bayelsa State Industrialisation Policy, designing the masterplan for the state Eco-Industrial Park, the masterplan for the State Power Generation Hub as well as providing conducive trading infrastructure, and developing the strategic plan for viable inward investment into Bayelsa State.
Meanwhile, journalists in the state will on Monday and Tuesday next week gather under one roof for an intensive training on new trends in the journalism profession and various skills of reportage.
The training, which is at the behest of the Bayelsa State Ministry of Information and Orientation, will also seek to highlight the importance of changing the narrative of the state through objective reportage.
According to a statement from the Ministry, the two-day training, which will be held in Yenagoa, the state capital, has as its theme, ‘The Role of the media in a state, changing the narrative of Bayelsa’.
The workshop will be declared open by the Deputy Governor of the state,  Rear Admiral John Jonah (retd.) by 9am.
Renowned professor and former Head of Department, Mass Communication, University of Lagos, Ralph Akinfeleye and Dr. Ntiense Usuaa of the University of Port Harcourt are the resource persons.
